Momentive™ is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping
you:
- Learn to be a wiser consumers through educational programs.
- Manage your money effectively through budget counseling.
- Solve your debt problems with a Debt Management Plan.
- Gain skills and information about homeownership.
Established in 1965, we offer a debt repayment program, budget counseling,
client newsletter, money management workshops, an overspenders support
group, homebuyer counseling, and various employee assistance programs.
Momentive™ Consumer Credit Counseling Service® is a member
of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, who has about 2,000
counseling offices in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. The National
Foundation of Credit Counseling, sets quality standards that all members
must meet. We must be accredited, have certified counselors and meet other
standards that ensure good business practices are being used.
We have counseling sites in Anderson, Bloomington, Columbus, Evansville,
Henderson (KY), Indianapolis, Madisonville (KY), Muncie, Owensboro (KY),
Terre Haute, and Vincennes. In addition we provide phone counseling for
other areas.
Momentive™ Consumer Credit Counseling Service® returned over
$16,500,000 to creditors which include attorneys, bank cards and loans,
collection agencies, doctors, finance companies and retailers in 1999.
Momentive™ provided more than 300 education presentations to over
7,800 people and counseled over 6,000 people in 1999.
Our funding comes from voluntary client contributions and voluntary
contributions from creditors who participate in the Debt Management
Plan. Since creditors have a financial interest in getting paid, most
are willing to make a contribution to help fund our agency. Funding for
programs other than the DMP is provided by supporters such as corporate
sponsors, housing lenders, foundations, and government agencies.
Momentive™ Consumer Credit Counseling Service® is not a government
agency and does not lend money.
About our clients...
Momentive™ Consumer Credit Counseling Service® clients experience
financial problems due to:
- Poor money management.
- Unemployment or reduced income.
- Medical emergencies.
- Divorce or separation.
- Death of a family member.
At the end of 1999, there were over 4,400 active clients on the Debt
Management Plan. Their average age is 37; nearly half are married, but
over a third are separated/widowed/divorced, and about 15% are single;
nearly half are home owners. They have an average income of about $29,000,
and owe about $26,000.
