Mortgage & Foreclosure Helpline
Owning a home is the American dream, but for many consumers
that dream is being threatened by predatory lending, rising foreclosure
rates, and lack of education about consumer rights. We’re
taking a big step forward to help consumers overcome these obstacles
associated with homeownership.
The
Mortgage and Foreclosure Helpline is a toll-free telephone helpline
for Indiana homeowners needing assistance. The number
is 866-722-WAIT (9248).
The goal is to help people buying a home or refinancing
their current home, and who need assistance in understanding loan
documents,
particularly those potentially caught in predatory lending situations;
and to assist homeowners facing foreclosure keep their homes.
This is a joint project Momentive Consumer Credit Counseling
Service® and
Congresswoman Julia Carson with support from Fannie Mae Indiana
Partnership Office and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Momentive Consumer Credit Counseling Service® is a not-for-profit
community service agency. Momentive was established in 1965 to
assist consumers learn to manage their money and use credit wisely.
Momentive is a HUD approved housing counseling agency. All counselors
are Certified Consumer Credit Counselors, and Certified Consumer
Credit Report Interviewers.
Consumers who need assistance should call 866-722-9248 to speak
with a counselor. The counselor will gather information and assess
the situation. Depending on their needs, the consumer will receive
immediate counseling via the telephone, be scheduled to meet
with a counselor in their area, or referred to the appropriate
agency
to assist them. |
