Message from the President
In 1999, Consumer Credit Counseling Service® of Central Indiana
recognized the growing changes in the credit counseling industry
and seized this unique opportunity to prepare for the future. We
spent the year immersed in evaluation and strategic planning in
order to lay the foundation for the agency of the future. Services
were enhanced along the way to provide better services to clients
and creditors. On-line counseling was offered for the first time
to accommodate people's busy lifestyles. We made a major step into
the technology age by preparing the web site: www.cccsmidwest.org.
CCCS® of Central Indiana continues to fill the needs of many in
our communities who require assistance with their financial well-being.
It is a service that we have been providing for 34 years. In 1999,
we provided counseling, whether face-to-face, telephone, or on-line
to over 5,900 people. In order to serve more communities, offices
were opened in Greenwood and Noblesville. In the face of ever growing
competition from the private sector, we disbursed over $16 million
to creditors on behalf of our clients. CCCS® of Central Indiana
recognizes the growing diversity of the communities we serve. We
were able to provide services for both the deaf community and the
Spanish speaking population. CCCS® of Central Indiana continues
to provide educational programs of unparalleled quality. The agency
provided educational programs to over 10,000 people.
All of these accomplishments speak well of this dedicated staff
that delivers these community services throughout the year. The
staff of Consumer Credit Counseling Service® of Central Indiana
is comprised of dedicated individuals who strive to make their
community a better place.
As board president over the past year, it has been both a privilege
and a pleasure to work with my fellow board members and staff of
Consumer Credit Counseling Service® of Central Indiana. I wanted
to make a difference throughout Central Indiana. Together we have
begun to build a stronger future for all.

A Client's
Story
During the course of a day, you may meet me many times and
not even know it. I may be the bus driver picking up your
children for school, or your server at lunch. I may be your
co-worker or the cashier at your grocery. I may be a professional
that has provided you services. However, something you may
not have known about me is that I am a client of Consumer
Credit Counseling Service® of Central Indiana.
I had gotten behind on my bills because of no money management
training, my divorce and/or extreme medical bills. No matter
what the reason, I was at a loss on how to deal with my debts.
Then a friend told me about Consumer Credit Counseling Service® of
Central Indiana. I made an appointment and met with a certified
consumer credit counselor. The counselor reviewed my income
and expenses and devised a plan where I could meet my living
expenses and my debt payments, too. I owed 11 creditors an
outstanding debt of $31,983. My counselor negotiated with
my creditors to work out a debt repayment plan.
I am glad that I came to Consumer Credit Counseling Service® of
Central Indiana. Not only am I paying off my creditors but
I was able to learn how to better manage my money. I am learning
that it is not an overnight fix but it is well worth the
time. I am also showing my child that anything worthwhile
is worth the work. My child thinks that I am pretty special,
too. Because we are learning better money management we will
soon be able to buy our first home. |

Building for the Future
Any successful building project must first start with a
solid foundation. For CCCSCI, the solid base is the development
effort that was established in 1998 to support our quality
education programs. Throughout 1999, we built upon our early
efforts to establish a solid campaign.
In 1999, we did an annual appeal and secured sponsors for
various programs. The annual appeal campaign generated a
total of $4,545 for the year. The sponsorship campaign generated
$18,969 and included sponsors for Credit College, The Road
Home, dollars & $ense newsletter, and educational materials.
The total amount generated was $23,514, which was an increase
of 121 percent over 1998. The development effort is working
toward building a stronger future for CCCSCI and the clients
we serve.
The donations and support of individuals and corporations
were crucial in our efforts to provide training and assistance
to individuals throughout Central Indiana. We sincerely appreciate
the response from our 1999 donors and hope you will continue
to help us make a difference in our communities.
